I love making Smoked Manhattans at home. I bought a handheld smoker from Amazon.com and use my cocktail set from Cocktail Kingdom. I also make sure I have a bottle with a top that I can close tight.
I know a lot of people like to smoke the glass before pouring in the cocktail. When it’s done this way I feel like I can only smell the smoke for a moment and then it fades. Glass is not meant to hold on to odors and the powerful aromas of the drink will wash it away.
When I smoke the whiskey mix instead, I get to taste it! It’s a little more work but I think this is how a smoked-infused cocktail should be.
Here I used:
2 oz Hudson Whiskey Manhattan Rye Whiskey
1 oz Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth
2 dashes of Peychaud’s Aperitivo bitters
Stonewall Kitchen Bada Bing Cherries
Apple Smoking Chips
Make the cocktail - stir in ice- strain it into the bottle filled with smoke. This is also where you get to determine how much smoke you would like infused into the drink. I shake around (lightly) about four times and then pour over fresh ice. Rocks glass. Top with a cherry or two...enjoy!
