Tonight was a white wine night so it was time for Domaine De Villaine 2017 from the Bouzeron AOC which is located in the Côte Chalonnaise region of Bourgogne (Burgundy) France.
This tiny village only produces wines made from the rare Aligoté grape. Some of the vines have been around for 115 years, but it’s overshadowed by Bourgogne’s omnipresent pinot noirs and chardonnays. From this terroir, expect aromatics of jasmine and vanilla with high acidity.
This 2017 was ready to drink. After three years in the bottle, it was time for this wine to shine! Fresh flowers and honey on the nose that were followed by ripe peaches and vanilla. The acidity was alive and ready for attention. I got a little minerality in the finish that would be just perfect with seafood.
Domaine de Villaine is owned by Aubert de Villaine, who is also co-owner of the famous Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
